The Barre
About This Spot
Stepping into The Barre feels like discovering a quietly spirited corner of London where creativity hums softly alongside the rhythm of the city. Nestled within the contemporary embrace of the English National Ballet building at Leamouth Peninsula, this spot carries an inviting warmth that threads together the buzz of a vibrant neighborhood with moments of gentle calm. It’s a place where the pace is unhurried yet energised, a reflection of its unique role as both a brunch haven and a gathering space for locals and creatives alike.
The atmosphere here balances thoughtfully between a relaxed café vibe and a lively bar scene, offering something for every hour of the day. Bright morning sunlight filters through large windows, casting a golden tenderness over tables scattered with people diving into their own worlds—whether that’s a laptop perched open or a conversation unfolding over cups of expertly brewed coffee. By afternoon and evening, the space shifts subtly, drawing a crowd looking to enjoy artisan drinks and share moments in a setting alive with quiet chatter and friendly smiles.
In that sense, The Barre is less about rigid menus and more about feeling at ease in a space where food and drink enhance the everyday. There is a thoughtful craft evident in every dish and cup that arrives: buttery croissants, rich and earthy truffled avocado, or a cappuccino that carries just the right amount of comfort to spark your day. The kitchen’s attention to fresh local ingredients is a quiet promise to those who linger, with offerings that range from nourishing açai bowls and vibrant beetroot lattes to indulgent signature tiramisu pancakes that feel like a small celebration on the plate.
What makes The Barre truly special is its subtle sense of community. The friendly team creates an atmosphere where visitors feel like welcome guests, whether popping in for a quick coffee or settling in for a longer stay. The merging of a café, coworking space, and event venue under one roof means there’s an authentic hum of connection — creatives, remote workers, and brunch lovers alike sharing the same inviting space without rushing.
In this part of London, where modern developments shape the landscape, The Barre stands as a quiet, heartfelt invitation to pause, enjoy carefully crafted food and drink, and discover a little calm amid the city’s pulse.

Such an amazing place with the most friendly staff and just minutes from Canning Town station in a vibrant square of a new stylish City Island development. I had simply the best sour bread and avocado sandwich with perfectly scrambled eggs in London! And their own coffee is absolutely delicious . Totally recommend it for a breakfast or brunch.

This restaurant is hidden in the National Ballet building, so find it as it’s worth a visit! It’s a brunch orientated place serving artisan food and coffee, the food was really good. We were a two-top and our mine attraction was for the food. The menu looked really strong with a wide selection of options including vegetarian, for non-veggies, highly recommend the bacon, they have really taken the care to elevate it. When the food came, the quality reflected what it said on the menu so we were happy! Service was superb, staff are super friendly and have a real relaxed vibe, which is great for a Sunday chill. Only complaint is the coffee is abit on the expensive side, £3.30 for a small, £3.80 for a large, would be more likely to enjoy if it was closer to £3/3.50. Had to sit outside as my dog wasn’t allowed inside and only stayed to eat and drink as it was good weather. So this would definitely influence my rating if the conditions aren’t as great on my next visit. There is no parking options apart from the overpriced private parking which is not affiliated with the restaurant but the residential development, so if you are coming it eat here, realistically you should come by public transport/foot.

The brunch was excellent! My American-style pancake was perfectly fluffy, and the Coffee Bacon surprised me! The mushroom on toast was absolutely delicious, and I was tempted to steal some from my friend. My tropical juice was fresh and full of flavor, made right in front of me with local fruits. It was truly a wonderful experience!

We had breakfast here three days in a row and tried most of the menu. The food and coffee were consistently great, both taste and look. The staff and the atmosphere are also very nice. Highly recommend.

Delicious breakfast and perfect after a night out or just when meeting up with friends. The barre breakfast is your typical English breakfast, bacon was deliciously caramelized. I had the Avocado toast. It tasted a bit bland but the sourdough bread made up for it!

This hidden gem is just under the dance studio. You would miss it if you didn't know it was there. However, it has become my favourite place to get a full English breakfast or Barre Breakfast as they would call it. Every single component of the dish is fantastic. It feels like they took the standard breakfast and really elevated the flavours of everything. As soon as you see it you know it's going to be good with all the colours popping out to you and you just can't wait to dig in. The staff here are also super friendly and it's always a pleasure coming in. It's also a rather cool environment to have a cafe, with it being attached to the dance centre. Would highly recommend this place

The brunch was delicious! My American pancake was fluffy, and the Coffee bacon was a surprise! The Mushroom on toast was to die for, and I wanted to steal it from my husband. My tropical juice was fresh and delicious, made right in front of me using fresh fruit. Really a beautiful experience!
